Packaging Diverter

CDSL has proven experience with machine controls ranging from simple controller upgrades to complete control system designs for new machinery. We custom design machine controls to fit the customer’s specific needs with a focus on operational efficiency. Our machine controls can be standalone or designed to be fully integrated into new or existing line controls.

The customer needed to add a function to an existing food packaging line that would allow product from one packaging line to be diverted to a different packaging line. The customer had already purchased the diverter and associated hardware from a machine builder but was hesitant to add the machine builder provided control panel to an already congested packaging area. After our investigation it was determined that a piece of equipment just upstream of the diverter was controlled by an aging controller and motion control system that could be upgraded to accommodate the controls of the new diverter. The size of the existing control panel was sufficient to accommodate all the necessary hardware the client would need. This plan also provided an opportunity for the client to upgrade to a safety rated controller with enough memory to eventually control the entire packaging line via ethernet remote I/O. The decision was made to proceed and to have a new custom subplate built to minimize installation downtime. To bring this plan to fruition, we designed and furnished a custom subplate along with an electrical installation package consisting of electrical schematic drawings, a scope of work, a cable schedule and a contractor's parts list. Finally, the existing PLC logic was converted for the new controller and motion equipment and additional logic was added for the new diverter.
